Wikipedia:Requested moves
This page has an administrative backlog that requires the attention of willing administrators. This notice will be automatically removed by RMCD bot (talk) when the backlog is cleared. |
Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus to move the page is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will carry out the request. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion may be closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- These Are "The Damned" → The Damned (1962 film) (move · discuss) – According to the page's history, it seemed that c.7 years ago, this film's confusing titles and release dates caused a number of flubs. In the UK, it's just titled The Damned; in the USA, it was These Are the Damned. And the very first theatrical release date, which is what we always classify a film by, was in Australia 1962. However, its first UK premiere was 1963.
So first somebody attempted to change it to the US title; then when somebody reverted it back to the simple The Damned, they also apparently added (1963 film) rather than (1962 film)—to distinguish from others, like a 1969 film by the same name. And just to make matters worse, the lede paragraph here erroneously refers to it as a 1961 film—which I'll fix now. (That's a misinterpretation of film wrap-up vs. cinemas probably.)
So I was hoping to correct it all by swapping the redirect "(1962 film)" with the main article "(1963 film)"……Except "(1962 film)" had more than 1 edit. So I tried to do the A-B-C page move method, but I failed and I didn't want to create further problems. So I just need help at this point, please!
Could an admin please move the main film article's content onto the page titled The Damned (1962 film)? Afterwards, the following should all be redirects based on alternative names or incorrect names, just in case: ReDir.#1: The Damned (1963 film); RD #2: These Are the Damned; & RD #3: These Are "The Damned" (the latter because the poster has it stylized as such, w/ quotation marks). I apologize for the complications, but I appreciate the assistance in advance, thank you. --Cinemaniac86TalkStalk 10:39, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

- Battle of Paštrik → Battle of Pashtrik (currently a redirect back to Battle of Paštrik) (move · discuss) – Current name of the mountain the battle was fought around has been Pashtrik since 2021; name of the battle should be renamed accordingly. ZionniThePeruser (talk) 20:10, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

- @Raladic Your citations for "Radiation zone" are for a different topic. eg " A New Perspective on Earth's Radiation Zone" "Earth's Inner Radiation Zone" and so on. Johnjbarton (talk) 23:14, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Raladic what do you mean by "run a full RM discussion " Johnjbarton (talk) 23:17, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- A full WP:RSPM Requested Move Discussion at the article talk page to ensure community consensus agrees with you.
- Things could be complicated if there's differing use of what Radiation zone refers to vs Radiative zone as you just mentioned above and it appears we don't have an article for the Earths Radiation zone if that term is indeed not always used synonymously with the current articles title?
- Either way, it sounds like a bigger community discussion on this is warranted, given that it appears to be two terms that may or may not refer to the same or not same thing, so it does not appear to be an uncontroversial technical move, which is what this noticeboard is for. Administrator needed
The discussion process is used for potentially controversial moves. A move is potentially controversial if either of the following applies:
- there has been any past debate about the best title for the page;
- someone could reasonably disagree with the move.
Use this process if there is any reason to believe a move would be contested. For technical move requests, such as to correct obvious typographical errors, see Requesting technical moves. The technical moves procedure can also be used for uncontroversial moves when the requested title is occupied by an existing article.
Do not create a new move request when one is already open on the same talk page. Instead, consider contributing to the open discussion if you would like to propose another alternative. Multiple closed move requests may be on the same page, but each should have a unique section heading.
Do not create a move request to rename one or more redirects. Redirects cannot be used as current titles in requested moves.
Requesting a single page move
To request a single page move, click on the "New section" (or "Add topic") tab of the talk page of the article you want moved, without adding a new subject/header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move|New name|reason=Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.}}
Replace New name
with the requested new name of the page (or with a simple question mark, if you want more than one possible new name to be considered). The template will automatically create the heading "Requested move 21 October 2024" and sign the post for you.
There is no need to edit the article in question. Once the above code is added to the Talk page, a bot will automatically add the following notification at the top of the affected page:
A request that this page title be changed is under discussion. Please do not move this page until the discussion is closed. |
Unlike other request processes on Wikipedia, such as Requests for comment, nominations need not be neutral. Make your point as best you can; use evidence (such as Google Ngrams and pageview statistics) and refer to applicable policies and guidelines, especially our article titling policy and the guideline on disambiguation and primary topics.
WikiProjects may subscribe to Article alerts to receive RM notifications. For example, Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Article alerts/Requested moves is transcluded to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. RMCD bot notifies many of the other Wikiprojects listed on the talk page of the article to be moved to invite project members to participate in the RM discussion. Requesters should feel free to notify any other Wikiproject or noticeboard that might be interested in the move request, as long as this notification is neutral.
Single page move on a different talk page
Occasionally, a move request must be made on a talk page other than the talk page of the page to be moved. For example, a request to rename Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing and templates would need to take place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation because the talk page of the project page to be moved, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Resources, is a redirect to that centralized discussion page. In this type of case, the requested move should be made using the following code:
{{subst:requested move|reason=(the reason for the page move goes here).|current1=(present title of page to be renamed)|new1=(proposed title of page)}}
The |1=
unnamed parameter is not used. The |current1=
and |new1=
parameters are used similar to multiple page moves described below.
Requesting multiple page moves
A single template may be used to request multiple related moves. On one of the talk pages of the affected pages, create a request and format it as below. A sample request for three page moves is shown here (for two page moves, omit the lines for current3 and new3). For four page moves, add lines for current4 and new4, and so on. There is no technical limit on the number of multiple move requests, but before requesting very large multi-moves, consider whether a naming convention should be changed first. Discuss that change on the talk page for the naming convention, e.g., Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (sportspeople).
To request a multiple page move, edit at the bottom of the talk page of the article you chose for your request, without adding a new header, inserting this code:
{{subst:requested move
| current1 = Current title of page 1 (this parameter can be omitted for discussions hosted on a page that is proposed to be moved)
| new1 = New title for page 1 with the talk page hosting this discussion
| current2 = Current title of page 2
| new2 = New title for page 2
| current3 = Current title of page 3
| new3 = New title for page 3
| reason = Place here your rationale for the proposed page name change, ideally referring to applicable naming convention policies and guidelines, and providing evidence in support where appropriate. If your reasoning includes search engine results, please prioritize searches limited to reliable sources (e.g. books, news, scholarly papers) over other web results. You don't need to add your signature at the end, as this template will do so automatically.
}}
For example, to propose moving the articles Wikipedia
and Wiki
, put this template on Talk:Wikipedia
with current1
set to Wikipedia
and current2
set to Wiki
. The discussion for all affected articles is held on the talk page of the article where the template is placed (Talk:Wikipedia
). Do not sign the request with ~~~~
, since the template does this automatically (so if you sign it yourself there will be two copies of your signature at the end of the request). Do not skip pairs of numbers.
RMCD bot automatically places a notice section on the talk page of all pages that are included in your request except the one hosting the discussion, to call attention to the move discussion that is in progress and to suggest that all discussion for all of the pages included in the request should take place at that one hosting location.
For multi-move discussions hosted on a page which is itself proposed to be moved, it is not necessary to include the |current1=Current title of page 1
for the page hosting the discussion, as its current title can be inferred automatically. Occasionally the discussions for significant multi-move requests may be hosted on WikiProject talk pages or other pages in Project namespace, in which case it is necessary to include |current1=
to indicate the first article to be moved.
Request all associated moves explicitly
Please list every move that you wish to have made in your request. For example, if you wish to move Cricket (disambiguation) to Cricket because you do not believe the sport is the primary topic for the search term "Cricket", then you actually want to move two pages, both Cricket (disambiguation) and Cricket. Thus you must list proposed titles for each page affected by your request. For example, you might propose:
If a new title is not proposed for the sport, it is more difficult to achieve consensus for a new title for that article. A move request that does not show what to do with the material at its proposed target, such as:
is incomplete. Such requests may be completed as a request to decide the best new title by discussion.
- Cricket → ?
If a disambiguation page is in the way of a move, the request may be completed as proposing to add (disambiguation).

Commenting on a requested move
All editors are welcome to contribute to the discussion regarding a requested page move. There are a number of standards that Wikipedians should practice in such discussions:
- When editors recommend a course of action, they write Support or Oppose in bold text, which is done by surrounding the word with three single quotes on each side, e.g.
'''Support'''
. - Comments or recommendations are added on a new bulleted line (that is, starting with *) and signed by adding
~~~~
to the end. Responses to another editor are threaded and indented using multiple bullets. - The article itself should be reviewed before any recommendation is made; do not base recommendations solely on the information supplied by other editors. It may also help to look at the article's edit history. However, please read the earlier comments and recommendations, as well as prior move requests. They may contain relevant arguments and useful information.
- Vested interests in the article should be disclosed per Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI.
When participating, please consider the following:
- Editors should make themselves familiar with the article titling policy at Wikipedia:Article titles.
- Other important guidelines that set forth community norms for article titles include Wikipedia:Disambiguation, specific naming conventions, and the manual of style.
- The debate is not a vote; please do not make recommendations that are not sustained by arguments.
- Explain how the proposed article title meets or contravenes policy and guidelines rather than merely stating that it does so.
- Nomination already implies that the nominator supports the name change, and nominators should refrain from repeating this recommendation on a separate bulleted line.[a]
- Do not make conflicting recommendations. If you change your mind, use strike-through to retract your previous statement by enclosing it between <s> and </s> after the bullets, and de-bold the struck words, as in "•
SupportOppose".
Please remember that reasonable editors will sometimes disagree, but that arguments based in policy, guidelines, and evidence have more weight than unsupported statements. When an editor offers an argument that does not explain how the move request is consistent with policies and guidelines, a reminder to engage in constructive, on-topic discussion may be useful. On the other hand, a pattern of responding to requests with groundless opinion, proof by assertion, and ignoring content guidelines may become disruptive. If a pattern of disruptive behavior persists after efforts are made to correct the situation through dialogue, please consider using a dispute resolution process.
Closing a requested move
Any uninvolved editor in good standing may close a move request. Please read the closing instructions for information on how to close a move request. The Simple guide to closing RM discussions details how to actually close a requested move discussion.
Relisting a requested move
Relisting a discussion moves the request out of the backlog up to the current day in order to encourage further input. The decision to relist a discussion is best left to uninvolved experienced editors upon considering, but declining, to close the discussion. In general, discussions should not be relisted more than once before properly closing.[b] Users relisting a debate which has already been relisted, or relisting a debate with a substantial discussion, should write a short explanation on why they did not consider the debate sufficient to close. While there is no consensus forbidding participation in a requested move discussion after relisting it, many editors consider it an inadvisable form of supervote. If you want to relist a discussion and then participate in it, be prepared to explain why you think it was appropriate.
Relisting should be done using {{subst:RM relist}}
, which automatically includes the relister's signature, and which must be placed at the very end of the initial request after the move requester's signature (and subsequent relisters' signatures).
When a relisted discussion reaches a resolution, it may be closed at any time according to the closing instructions; there is no required length of time to wait before closing a relisted discussion.
If discussion has become stale, or it seems that discussion would benefit from more input of editors versed in the subject area, consider more widely publicizing the discussion, such as by notifying WikiProjects of the discussion using the template {{RM notification}}. Banners placed at the top of the talk page hosting the move request can often be used to identify WikiProjects suitable for notification.
Notes
- ^ A nominator making a procedural nomination with which they may not agree is free to add a bulleted line explaining their actual position. Additional detail, such as sources, may also be provided in an additional bullet point if its inclusion in the nomination statement would make the statement unwieldy. Please remember that the entire nomination statement appears on the list on this page.
- ^ Despite this, discussions are occasionally relisted more than once.
- This section lists all requests filed or identified as potentially controversial which are currently under discussion.
Do not attempt to edit this list manually; a bot will automatically update the page soon after the {{subst:Requested move}} template is added to the discussion on the relevant talk page. The entry is removed automatically soon after the discussion is closed. To make a change to an entry, make the change on the linked talk page. |
This list is also available in a page-link-first format and in table format. 63 discussions have been relisted.
- (Discuss) – October 2024 Iranian strikes against Israel → October 2024 Iranian strikes into Israel – The difference between using "into" and "against" is clear; "into" implies precision strikes targeting certain sites, while "against" imply indiscriminate bombing. While the April 2024 Iranian strikes against Israel could be argued as indiscriminate due to the use of several types of non-precision projectiles such as drones, clearly this was not the case for the September incident which exclusively used highly precise ballistic missiles as evidenced by the bombing of airbases. - (Discuss) – September 2024 Lebanon strikes → 23–24 September 2024 Israeli strikes into Lebanon – There is no reason why we should avoid mentioning the perpetrator of the strikes, Israel. Is the primary redirect to plants warranted? There are few links about it thankfully, so the impact shouldn't be large. A Google Books search for the terms "fritillary" and "fritillaries" doesn't seem conclusive. Per last RM close, I am setting up the "simple run-off between 2024 Lebanon electronic device attacks and 2024 Hezbollah device explosions". I'll also explain where I think we're at: The former is more recent, fits WP:NCWWW better and maintains WP:NPOV. The latter is based on words which had some support ("Hezbollah" and "explosions") and technically also covers attacks in Syria, but possibly ignores civilian casualties and leaves out that these were orchestrated attacks. A prior RM also found consensus not to include Syria. I'm hoping we can get a quick WP:SNOW close on this, especially as the first option is so recent and this is the third RM in so many weeks. I'd also like to avoid it becoming a Franken-monster like the last one. We're so close I can feel it. Lewisguile (talk) 07:18, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Kim Yu-bin (musician) → Kim Yu-bin – Proposed destination pages are currently a disambiguation page for just two articles, Kim Yu-bin (musician) and Kim Yoo-bin (actress). Given that the two ambiguous names use different romanizations (Yu-bin vs Yoo-bin), I don't think a whole separate disambiguation page for just two similarly, but not identically, named articles is necessary. A cleaner option would be to perform this move, and then place a hatnote on each article pointing to each other. (WP:ONEOTHER) As far as pageviews go, statistics from the last 12 months show Kim Yu-bin (musician) as receiving 10x the average monthly pageviews of Kim Yoo-bin (actress).stats Going one step further if people are into it, would be to move Kim Yu-bin (musician) to Yubin (per what I believe to be her WP:COMMONNAME) and then hatnoting the given name (Yu-bin) (WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, musician receives over 3x more average monthly pageviews than everyone else at Yu-bin combined, stats) RachelTensions (talk) 02:53, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Joseph Aoun → Joseph Aoun (disambiguation) – Per WP:PTOPIC. The Commander-in-chief of the Lebanese Army is the most significant person referred to as just "Joseph Aoun". The sports shooter barely has any information or notability, and the principle of Northeastern University is referred to in almost all sources as "Joseph E. Aoun" instead of just Joseph Aoun. - (Discuss) – Point coloration → Points (coat color) – This article is about color markings in several different species. Though such markings are not created by the same genetic issues cross-species, such marking patterns are referred to by the same word "points" (plural, not singular). The original name, "Points (coat color)", is the most fitting name. The article was renamed to "Point coloration" around the time the article was predominantly about cats and other small animal species which exhibit colorations caused by acromelanism (with horses shoehorned into the article). However, other species aren't colored by acromelanism, don't particularly use the term "point coloration", but all refer to "points" when describing certain coat color schemes. ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 01:43, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Tropical Storm Conson (2021) → Tropical Storm Conson – Can this page be moved to just Tropical Storm Conson? As Daniel boxs stated above, the name was retired after the 2021 Pacific typhoon season. While there was a more notable iteration of Conson last 2010, it was a typhoon. - (Discuss) – Estonian Native → Estonian Native horse – Intolerably naturally ambiguous phrase. The capitalization of Native doesn't "save" it, either, especially with rise of [over-]capitalization in the left-leaning press of terms like "native" any time they are applied to humans. That is, to a significant population of readers, the phrase "Estonian Native" necessarily indicates "people native to the present or historical Estonia", i.e. Estonians (AKA Estonian people) and the culture of Estonia. This move will be entirely WP:CONSISTENT with many prior moves of animal breed articles with names that appeared to refer to human populations, to now include the species term at the end as a WP:NATURAL disambiguator (thus Argentine Criollo cattle, Messinese goat, Algerian Arab sheep, Indo-Brazilian cattle, Florida White rabbit, etc., etc. (Cf. in particular the mass-RMs: Talk:British White cattle#Requested moves 19 December 2014 and Talk:Anglo-Nubian goat#Requested moves). The capitalization presented here is correct per MOS:LIFE: the proper name of a standardized breed is capitalized, but the species name used after it as a disambiguator is not, unless that word is itself part of the formal breed name because it would be confusingly ambiguous without it even outside of an encyclopedic context (as in the case of Norwegian Forest Cat which is not a Scandinavian woodland, and American Quarter Horse which is not a coin). PS: I would not create an Estonian native (disambiguation) page, but instead put a
{{Redirect|Estonian Native|people native to Estonia|Estonian people}}
hatnote template at the top of this breed article, since there are only two subjects to disambiguate. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 11:29, 11 October 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. asilvering (talk) 23:56, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Rhenish Warmblood → Rhinelander horse – Move the article Rhenish Warmblood (a made-up translation of an uncommon German name) to Rhinelander horse (the common English name, and previous name of this article). The English-language citations and links call the breed Rhinelander, Rhineland horse, or Rhineland Riding Horse—with the most common one being "Rhinelander". Similarly, the International Federation for Equestrian Sports list of studbooks and the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses member list call the breed "Rhinelander" when referring to the four English-speaking countries USA, GB, AUS, NZ. The article was unilaterally moved from "Rhinelander horse" to the dubious name "Rhenish Warmblood" in 2014 without discussion, and on the basis of a single unreliable source and a translation from German made by the moving editor (
moved page Rhinelander horse to Rhenish Warmblood: FAO transboundary name, and closer to the German name
). Today, of all the citations and links in the current version of the article, only one — the DAD-IS online database [3] — mentions the term "Rhenish Warmblood", and then only as a "local name". The DAD-IS database is a collection of self-reported information with no editorial oversight by the database-hosting organization, FAO, and is generally unreliable as a source for horse breed articles. See here and here for detailed evaluation/explanation of why that is. German-language websites refer to the breed as "Rheinisches Reitpferd", and less commonly "Rheinisches Warmblut". Even the German breed association publishes an official English version in which they call the breed "Rhineland Riding Horse" and "Rheinländer" (§ 17.1). Since "Rhinelander" is the most WP:COMMONNAME used in English, I propose returning the article name to "Rhinelander horse". ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 18:04, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
As further evidence that this article is misnamed, consider the top hits in Google scholar: * radiative zone: ** "The dynamics of the solar radiative zone" ** Bounds on the Magnetic Fields in the Radiative Zone of the Sun ** Magnetic fields and non-uniform rotation in stellar radiative zones ** Turbulent transport in radiative zones of stars * These are all about a zone of stars, the topic if this article. * radiation zone] ** A new population of ultra‐relativistic electrons in the outer radiation zone (about van allen belt) ** A revised look at relativistic electrons in the Earth's inner radiation zone and slot region ** A New Perspective on Earth's Radiation Zone ** The assessment of radiation zone determination in RDE for radiation workers * These are mostly about van allen belt, but not about stars. As much as his name can be shortened to Alex, it is not the name used on timing documents and official TV/media graphics. Legacy media seems pretty torn on which one to use—there is no clear preference—thus, I think the officially stated name should take precedent. - (Discuss) – List of Ferris wheels → List of tallest Ferris wheels – There is no list of all buildings or office centers, all amusement parks, etc., just as the idea of including all Ferris wheels in the world in one list is absurd. I believe the article should be renamed, as the number of Ferris wheels in the world is absolutely huge, likely measured in thousands, and including all of them in a list is simply impossible! And not necessary, as there is no encyclopedic significance in all Ferris wheels ranging from 10-20 meters in height, from every small town, amusement park, or even shopping center... Perhaps the original idea of the article was the TOP of the tallest Ferris wheels in the world, but then the title simply does not correspond to the content and the article needs to be renamed. The only, in my opinion, controversial point is what should be the threshold for including a wheel in the list. My opinion - definitely not less than 80 meters (possibly more - 90 or even 100), otherwise there will be too many wheels and it will be difficult to maintain the relevance of the article. As an argument, I would like to refer to the sale of 88-meter-high wheels on alibaba, which means that wheels of this height can be mass-produced and installed all over the world for a relatively low price for such a giant. Another example - I tried to find a source to confirm the Phnom Penh Eye wheel from Cambodia (from this article), 88 meters high, and found only one very questionable source, and it was not even possible to determine if such a wheel exists or not... Therefore, there is a corresponding problem with wheels up to 80 meters in height, while there are no such problems with wheels ranging from 90-100 meters in height. - (Discuss) – List of people killed for being transgender → List of unlawfully killed transgender people – The current title was established after a prior discussion from a few years ago. But as has become clear, the standard established with it does not serve the encyclopedia as it has established an impossibly high threshold since few people committing murders go out of their way to outright say "yes they did this because they wanted to commit a hate crime murder" and as such, the encyclopedia loses on a lot of valuable cases that have been argued against inclusion on this unreasonable standard and has gutted this article. This proposed new title was brought up by the above discussion by @Funcrunch. Please see this and this comment for more context. - (Discuss) – Protagonist (Persona 3) → Makoto Yuki – I understand that this request has been made a few times in the past, but in 2024 I think it's by now indisputable that the Persona 3 protagonist's name is Makoto Yuki. This is the default name in both recent ports of Persona 3 Portable and this year's Persona 3 Reload. Characters with customizable names like Cloud Strife and Byleth are titled by their canon names and even the Persona 4 protagonist is titled Yu Narukami despite having a different manga name. The existence of the female protagonist may raise an issue, but I think the protagonist can canonically be considered male given the fact that the female option was a later addition. The option is also absent from Reload and even the official Wikipedia page for Persona 3 refers to the protagonist with male pronouns. However, if we decide we want to acknowledge both we could have a dual title in the same boat as Alexios and Kassandra. - (Discuss) – University of Minnesota → University of Minnesota Twin Cities –
1. The current title, "University of Minnesota", is ambiguous because it can refer to the entire university system or any of the individual campuses within it. Moving the page to "University of Minnesota Twin Cities" will better reflect that this page is specifically about the Twin Cities campus, the flagship campus in the University of Minnesota system.
2. The official name of the Twin Cities campus is "University of Minnesota Twin Cities", as confirmed by the system's list of campuses, the systemwide University of Minnesota System Identity document, and the Twin Cities campus website.
3. This move ensures consistency with other campuses. Other campuses within the University of Minnesota system, such as "University of Minnesota Duluth" and "University of Minnesota Morris", already include the location in their titles. Aligning the Twin Cities campus with this convention ensures consistency across all pages.
These moves will provide clear distinctions between the system and its campuses, making it easier for readers to find the specific information they are looking for. Cfls (talk) 22:54, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – BoyNextDoor → Boynextdoor – Similar case to our previous discussion over at Talk:Babymonster#Requested move 10 October 2024, I'm proposing eliminating the CamelCase in the article title. As usual, the most common way the name is presented in RS is in the all-caps stylization, which doesn't help us here. I've clicked through about sixty pages of search results to pull together every instance I could find of reliable sources presenting the group's name without all caps: Reliable English-language sources for Boynextdoor: * Korea JoongAng Daily * The Korea Herald * Yonhap News Agency * The Manila Times * The Straits Times * South China Morning Post * United Press International * Escapist Magazine * Sakshi Post * The Korea Times Reliable English-language sources for "BoyNextDoor": * Korea JoongAng Daily * Manila Bulletin * We Got This Covered * Yonhap News Agency There are some sources that use "Boy Next Door" but those are outliers and Maeil Business Newspaper tends to use "Boynext Door" for whatever reason. Hybe and KOZ both refer to the group in all-caps almost exclusively so they're of no help. MOS:CAMELCASE defers to whatever appears to be most common; based on what I've found in English-language RS, "Boynextdoor" is the most common, and Wikipedia has a general attitude of avoiding unnecessary capitzalization per MOS:CAPS. - (Discuss) – Wonyoung → Jang Wonyoung – Cracking open a discussion on moving Wonyoung to Jang Wonyoung. Back in July there was a proposal to move from Jang Won-young to Jang Wonyoung, but the article ended up being moved to Wonyoung instead without much discussion or supporting evidence. It doesn't seem like the subject of the article has ever been known as "Wonyoung" in any official capacity; she was known as "Jang Won-yong" in Iz*One, and is specifically one of two members of IVE that officially use their full names, not a mononym (the other being An Yujin). See: IVE official listing at Starship Entertainment, and official Spotify artist page. In addition, English-language reliable sources seem to commonly refer to her non-monomously (at least as commonly as they do mononomously): Dazed Magazine, Maeil Business Newspaper, Korea JoongAng Daily, WWD, The Korea Times, The Sun, Republic, South China Morning Post, The Korea Herald, The Chosun Ilbo, Yonhap News Agency, The Korea Economic Daily, The Hankook Ilbo, Aju News Corporation, Korea Broadcasting System I think that given that there are some sources that refer to her mononomously, and some sources that refer to her with the full name, we should defer to the way she is known officially unless the evidence to refer to her otherwise is overwhelming. She is officially non-mononomous in all her professional solo MCing and hosting credits, her group work (both groups), her agency, etc. The only quasi-official place she's used "Wonyoung" is her Instagram name and even that's debatable because immediately prior to that she calls herself "Jang Wonyoung" in Hangul. - (Discuss) – Uriah Heep (character) → Uriah Heep (David Copperfield) – This article was created in May 2002 as Uriah Heep. On 17 February 2006 it was moved to Uriah Heep (character), on 15 March to Uriah Heep (fictional character) and on 25 March to Uriah Heep (David Copperfield). In April 2009, it was moved back to Uriah Heep, thus again becoming the disambiguation page primary topic until June 2022 when, following an RM, the header was returned to Uriah Heep (character). While I would support this character's restoration to primary status, Dickens characters are disambiguated via the title of the novel, such as Estella (Great Expectations), Monks (Oliver Twist), Mrs Bardell (Pickwick Papers), Nancy (Oliver Twist), Pip (Great Expectations), The seamstress (A Tale of Two Cities) or Tiny Tim (A Christmas Carol), to name seven. Additionally, it is commonplace for characters from other novels, such as Frederick Wentworth (Persuasion), Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell), Will Parry (His Dark Materials), Carlo Rizzi (The Godfather) or Michael Rossi (Peyton Place). - (Discuss) – Cornstalk → Cornstalk (Shawnee chief) – "Corn Stalk" is currently the title of the disambiguation page that lists "corn stalk", "Corn Stalk", "cornstalk", and "Cornstalk" topics. Only one of the various subjects listed there (a series of defensive moves in chess) would capitalize "Stalk" under Wikipedia's capitalization conventions, so the disambiguation page's title should be lowercased, but "Corn stalk" ordinarily refers to the stem of the maize plant, so the disambiguation page should have "(disambiguation)" appended. It is very surprising that Corn stalk is a red link – that should redirect to maize. "Cornstalk" is another common way to write the same term, and has several alternative meanings (especially including the stem of the maize plant, for example). It seems unlikely that the Shawnee chief is so well known as to be a properly dominant WP:primary topic for "cornstalk". "Cornstalk" should redirect to maize. Alternatively, the disambiguation page could use the title Corn stalk, and Cornstalk could redirect to that (or vice versa). — BarrelProof (talk) 18:10, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Minnesota Fats → Minnesota Fats (character) – Why isn't the article at Minnesota Fats? That is by far the most common name used here to refer to him. Every source in the article uses Minnesota Fats, to the point even his NYT obit called him that and not Rudolph Wanderone, and the word "Wanderone" is hardly used in the text of the article instead of "Fats". Sure, he named himself after a fictional character, but inbound links and page views suggest most people looking for "Minnesota Fats" are looking for the pool player and not the character. It's blatantly obvious Wanderone's legacy has far outlasted that of the fictional character from whom he derived his name. This seems a crystal-clear violation of WP:COMMONNAME to have his article at "Rudolph Wanderone", and to me, it's like if we arbitrarily decided to move Lady Gaga's article to "Stefani Germanotta". I'm genuinely shocked no one else has even considered this issue in the past ten years. - (Discuss) – Fishing Lakes → Calling Lakes – The widely used name for these lakes amongst local governments and organization is no longer Fishing Lakes. It has been replaced by Calling Lakes with Qu'Appelle, a french word that means "who calls", as the second most common name usage. The locale is predominantly English speakers with french being another official language in the country. It is less ambiguous to use the proper Calling Lakes name as search engine results for Fishing Lakes will bring content for lakes in general that are good to fish at regardless of location. Therefore fishing lakes is an ambiguous place name and should be demoted. 198.245.116.192 (talk) 04:17, 9 October 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 05:57, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Swedish Brother's Feud → ? – The current title is perhaps a partial translation of Den andra brödrastriden (no source is given), but as far as I know, the conflict doesn't have an established name. Since Wikipedia's scope is global and it covers all time periods, this short title seems somewhat weird. Also, it should be Swedish brothers' feud, with plural brothers and without capitalization, since it is not really a proper name but a descriptive phrase. I suggest two alternatives, between which I am quite undecided: * Conflict between Birger Magnusson and his brothers, based on the title of Jerker Rosén's dissertation "Striden mellan Birger Magnusson och hans bröder : studier i nordisk politisk historia 1302-1319". * Inter-Nordic conflict of 1302–1319, based on Sverre Bagge's article Aims and means in the inter‐Nordic conflicts 1302–1319 (I don't think the plural is absolutely necessary, and using it might suggest that the article is a list). The latter title would make the focus of the article a bit wider. This would help avoid duplicating content, since the strife between Magnussons is already covered in their biographies. However, going into detail about the power-play between different kingdoms (See Bagge's article) might be a distraction in the biographies, but could be discussed here. Sundberg 2010 calls this Kampen mellan Birger och hans bröder 1304–1310. Sundberg's time limits are explained by his focus on armed conflict. However, I think Rosén's and Bagge's temporal limits make more sense, since the political conflict already starts when Birger becomes of age 1302, and ends in 1319 to his deposition. — Jähmefyysikko (talk) 07:10, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Zhang Hao → Zhang Hao (disambiguation) – Singer is clear primary topic, meeting the criteria for WP:PT1:
A topic is primary for a term with respect to usage if it is highly likely—much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term.
According to the pageview analysis, Zhang Hao (singer) receives about 1700% more pageviews than all other Zhang Hao articles combined, – Clickstream data shows that the vast majority of visitors to the disambiguation page click directly through to (Singer), and per Wikipedia:DETERMINEPRIMARY:
A rule of thumb is that it's likely there is a primary topic by usage if the top WikiNav graph shows a single significant usage that maps to almost all of the incoming traffic and overwhelms all other usages.
(Singer) doesn't just overwhelm all other usages on WikiNav, it is the only usage that WikiNav has any data on because none of the other usages receive enough traffic for WikiNav to even construct a report on their traffic patterns: [34] RachelTensions (talk) 06:57, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Horten Station (1881-2007) → Horten Station (historical) – This article was recently renamed, which may be justifiable because a new Horten Station will open soon, but the date range does not seem like the best choice as a disambiguation term for the former station (especially with a hyphen instead of a dash). As far as I now, this is the only historical Horten Station (and the only article title on Wikipedia with a hyphenated date range starting after 1861). The date range seems hard to remember, and the 2007 part of it appears to be unsourced. Some links (e.g., in the Horten Line, List of discontinued railway stations in Norway, List of railway lines in Norway, Chronology of Norwegian railway lines, and Timeline of railway electrification in Norway articles and the {{Horten Line map}} template) have been incorrectly leading to the Horten Station article due to being left over from when this station was described with that title. Also, only that one has been listed on the Horten (disambiguation) page. In the last couple of months since the page renaming, a pageview comparison shows both articles having low page views and neither being dominant (especially when considering the incorrect links leading to the Horten Station article, which could inflate its pageview numbers. — BarrelProof (talk) 21:27, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – 601-603 High Street → 601–603 High Street – If I understand correctly, these are ranges of street addresses. Per MOS:NUMRANGE, ranges of numbers should be expressed with an en dash, not a hyphen. I confirmed that the NHRP uses "--" when describing the last two, which is equivalent to using an en dash. The 900-910 North Lake Shore article and some off-Wikipedia sources use "900 910" and "900/910", and the buildings' branding seems to use "900/910", and that topic is a pair of buildings, and units within each building are referred to with street addresses of 900 for one building and 910 for the other, so perhaps it should be "900 and 910". I would just perform these moves boldly, but I wonder whether someone might disagree with this interpretation or suggest alternative titles. For example, two cited sources ([41] and [42]) refer to the first topic simply as 601 High Street; it is a single building. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:45, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – Neopanax colensoi → Pseudopanax colensoi – WP:COMMONNAME and WP:FLORA - overwhelming usage within recent scientific papers, despite mixed use in taxonomic databases. Without a clear scientific basis for a preference of one name over the other, MOS:ENGVAR/MOS:TIES: that there is a clear consensus among New Zealand scientific sources for a clade of plants endemic to New Zealand. *Neopanax and Pseudopanax together form a clade. Currently there are three morphological forms of the species within this clade - two are always described as Pseudopanax, while one (the more basal form) is sometimes described as Neopanax and sometimes Pseudopanax. page 52 of this thesis has a useful graph showing phylogenetic relationships within the group. Neopanax was synonymised with Pseudopanax in the 20th century, re-established as a genus in 2004, but the justification of this was disputed in 2009. The distinction appears to be one based on conventions rather than a clear scientific justification (i.e. less based on whether or not Neopanax is a distinct clade within Pseudopanax, and more based on whether it's justified to use a different name for this clade, or to continue to use the pre-2004 convention). This issue was previously discussed at WikiProject Plants. *Different taxonomical databases use different preferred names. Pseudopanax is overwhelmingly used by New Zealand databases. **Pseudopanax preferred: NZ Flora, Biota of New Zealand, IUCN, iNaturalist, NZOR and NZTCS **Neopanax preferred: CoL, EoL, GBIF, IRMNG, NCBI, OTOL, POWO *Recent scientific sources outside of taxonomic databases overwhelmingly prefer Pseudopanax. Looking at Post-2020 Google Scholar results for species within the Neopanax clade:
*Neopanax arboreus 6 *Neopanax colensoi 3 *Neopanax kermadecensis 0 *Neopanax laetus 0 *Neopanax macintyrei 1 | *Pseudopanax arboreus 150 *Pseudopanax colensoi 29 *Pseudopanax kermadecensis 3 *Pseudopanax laetus 4 *Pseudopanax macintyrei 2 |
For the syllable in a given name, Wikipedia has 10 name articles that romanize the syllable as "Sun" in their article titles, and 4 name articles that romanize it as "Seon".
- (Discuss) – Saint Francis University, Hong Kong → Saint Francis University (Hong Kong) – The comma may imply an affiliation with the unrelated US-based Saint Francis University. For entities of the United States, Hong Kong, and many other regions, using a comma followed by a geographical name after an institution’s name is a common practice for naming affiliated or related branches, such as University of California, Los Angeles, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Bhopal. To avoid any potential confusion or unintended implication, it would be preferable to replace the comma with brackets. Cfls (talk) 19:59, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- (Discuss) – 2024 Nuseirat rescue operation → Nuseirat rescue and killings – There are two narratives about this event. For Israelis, this was a daring rescue operation to liberate 4 hostages. For the Palestinians it was the brutal killing of 250+ people in the span of a few hours. Per WP:NPOV, Wikipedia can't take sides. There is consensus to merge Nuseirat refugee camp massacre here, and while "massacre" has POV connotations, "killings" does not (see WP:KILLINGS), and has ample precedent (Dunmanway killings, 1971 Newry killings, 2014 killings of NYPD officers etc). - (Discuss) – Siege of Gerona (disambiguation) → Sieges of Gerona – Several issues I hope to address with these proposed moves. First, it makes little sense to have the "second" and "third" sieges as titles but to call the first event a battle; of the three is was the most like a battle, but the distinction is confusing in this case. It does seem that [ordinal] siege of Gerona is the most common manner of disambiguating the various events. If the first segment were to carry the WP:COMMONNAME "Battle" then it should not carry a parenthetical qualifier, being already WP:NATURALly disambiguated and the primary topic for the term; the base name Battle of Girona already redirects there and is WP:MISPLACED. Second, when used alone without additional context, "Siege of Gerona" does seem to refer to the successful final siege as a primary topic, and currently redirects there. I am proposing to leave this as a primary redirect and turn the disambiguation page into a set index at the plural, but I would also support having the set index in place of the redirect at the singular. Third, while I personally feel "Siege" in these titles is part of the proper noun, use in sources is mixed, and most "siege" articles on enwiki do not take siege as part of the proper noun (in contrast to "Battle of..." which is almost always part of the proper noun; I don't see the distinction) and WP:MILCAPS is vague, so for now let's go for being the most consistent. Lastly, as for the Girona vs. Gerona issue, there has been past move reversions and discussion about this (e.g. Talk:Third siege of Girona#Girona/Gerona), and we should reach consensus here. I am open to either spelling, but am proposing a return to Gerona because it does seem a majority of reliable sources use this spelling, and that is the criterion upon which we should base our choice. On the other hand, the modern spelling of the city is the Catalan spelling. Regardless, the set index/disambiguation page should use the same spelling as the articles. Overall, I am open to discussing and considering any and all variations of this proposal, but the status quo should not be kept. Mdewman6 (talk) 04:03, 1 October 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. There are several problems in the current title. One is that the disambiguator appears to be a redundant alternative title rather than a type classification or context clarifier. Another is the question mark indicating a lack of confidence about whether the painting's title should be "Self Portrait" or not (or whether the painting fits into the self-portraiture category or not). We shouldn't be using question marks this way. The use of title case and the lack of a hyphen in "Self Portrait" also seem questionable.
