I've removed the cities of Alexandretta, Antioch from this list. These are old names for Iskenderun and Antakya, both of which have been in Turkey, not Syria, since the 1930s; see Hatay. Syria does dispute Turkey's sovereignty over the Hatay, but the region is pretty clearly part of Turkey now. If these cities must be in this list, they can't be listed without specific comment as to their status. I think it's best they aren't there at all. CDC (talk) 18:05, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
governates population
[edit]This section lists population numbers which if you add up do not even come close to the total population number of Syria as cited in the main Syria article. Either this list is very old or it's just completely inacurate —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hulzenga (talk • contribs) 11:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Municipal governance
[edit]Are there city administrations below the subdistrict level or are cities and towns governed at the subdistrict level? --Criticalthinker (talk) 10:23, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
- Anyone? This has not been made clear on any pages dealing with the administrative divisions of Syria. Are there any municipal governments in Syria at the local level? Because I don't see it mentioned. This needs to be clarified. --Criticalthinker (talk) 19:08, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
- Coming back to this, because I was just on the Homs article, and it mentions a "city council" that governs it, but is this just a name for the governance of a subdistrict, or are there political divisions within the subdistrict such as cities, towns, etc.? Again, is there municipal government in Syria? Criticalthinker (talk) 08:45, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

List of cities or subdistricts?
[edit]It has still not been made clear exactly what these populations are measured from. Are these spatial/statistical "cities" or actual populations for municipal boundaries? Are these populations given for administrative subdivisions like subdistricts? Is it one or more than one per city? We need this clarified. Criticalthinker (talk) 12:50, 22 December 2024 (UTC)
